Homemade_envelopes Homemade_envelopes_2 Yesterday while Jason installed flooring in the hall I just tried to stay out of the way. It’s nothing but doorways and he doesn’t like to do the doorways. I’d recently seen a RAOKer talking about making her own envelopes and decided that would be fun. I found a template online at a recycling website, printed it out, and made liberal use of old magazine pages. I also made some envelope glue to go along with the envelopes I made. Gwen was pretty impressed though I think everyone else in the house thinks I’m certifiable.

Quesadilla_8_21_05If you have hungry teenage boys to feed, quesadillas are quick and easy and apparently acceptable. Place a tortilla in your skillet, layer on fat free refried beans, a little salsa, and some cheese. Top with another tortilla and cook over medium heat until browned. Flip and brown the other side. Slice and serve.

Beets_and_greens_8_21_05We’ve been enjoying veggies from the CSA all week long. Yesterday I made beets and greens with some of them. I had 1/4 pound of pancetta diced and browned it with sliced baby red onions (I used the green tops too.) Then I added sliced and quartered red and golden beets and later added 1/4 cup water and the chopped greens from the beets as well as the other greens I had. Cook until veggies are tender and greens are wilted. These went nicely with our baked potatoes and broccoli.

Charlottes_scarf_two_repeatsThe charlotte scarf for the scarf exchange is coming along slowly. Here it is with two repeats completed. It’s beginning to look a bit nicer now as it slowly widens. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it but I’m much happier with it now.

  1. I had to try out the envelope making too. They are pretty cute, but I can’t remember the last time I used a regular envelope for anything!

  3. I remember making these envelopes when I was in college. Thanks for the links. No reason not to make them now and recycle some paper!

  4. Thank you sooo much for the paper crane. It really made my day. Teaching has been interesting and it brought such a BIG smile to my face and warmed my heart. Thank you so much!!!

  5. I love homemade envelopes. Whenever I’ve got the right amount of energy I make my own envelopes. I often machine stitch the outside edges instead of glueing. If I don’t have the right amount of energy I use wax kiddie crayons and add fish and reeds on the back and across the bottom of the front.
