007009I’ve been mulling over what to do with this special indigo dyed fabric for quite some time now. I bought it in Hawaii on the big island at the Dragon Mama quilt shop (it seems to be all about futons now). It was in their special kimono fabrics section and was quite pricey so I only bought two small pieces. Yesterday I sewed them up into a little barley hull pillow. I love the chrysanthemum but the backside is really pretty too.

018015While I was hanging laundry I spotted a fisher cat running up the neighbors pine tree to her den and this intriguing insect with gorgeous gilded wings.

  1. That bug looks like a cicada *shudder*.

  2. Sorry, bugs creep me out! Love the little bags….I was thinking you could make project bags out of them, too.

  3. Oh that fabric is so pretty. I like the bug. Did you get a haircut? I can’t tell from the picture, but it looks short. I hope the neighborhood cats are going to be ok with that fisher cat running around.

  4. I agree that it’s a cicada.

  5. Yes that is a cicada. They’ve only started singing here. I grew up with them in Greece and almost fell out of a huge fig tree as a 9 year old trying to catch one. They emit a screamy noise when touched hence my fright and near accident. I love them! Their discarded shells from hatching are cool.
