Square 1

log cabin All in all I think my log cabin block turned out quite well. It has a dark heart rather than the traditional red and I think the lightest blue and yellow don’t contrast very well. That 1/4-inch seam that’s not really quite 1/4-inch will take some practice but I’m measuring pretty darn close after ironing and my block is very nearly square so I’m thrilled. I *might* have been labeled a renegade and a speed demon in class. I think I just have more general sewing experience perhaps or maybe it’s just that I’m used to doing things in a very particular way (all that lab experience coming in handy) so that the method for this came very easily to me. Time will tell. Next week we’ll do a pinwheel block. Can’t wait!

  1. Lovely! It is going to be fun seeing how these fabrics work up in the various squares you do in your class. The one quilt that is actually finished is an uneven log cabin. The centres are all fussy cuts of a cat fabric. And the sides are greens and pinks.

  2. Wow, to me it just looks gorgeous :-) Love the way you alternated intensity of print.

  3. Your block is beautiful. I really like the colors the way they are. Since I can barely sew on a button I enjoy seeing what others create and I look forward to your pinwheel block.
