Testing, 1, 2, 3!

Gabby test 003I’m testing out a new plugin that will make it easier for me to post on the road using Flickr. That’ll save me buying another copy of photoshop elements for editing. I checked out GIMP but haven’t figured out how to resize and save as jpgs yet so I think this new plugin will do nicely.

Gabby’s nappy place

The other girls could care less but Gabby is inordinately fond of getting inside bags or boxes for a little snooze. She had a bit of trouble getting out of this one though so I’ll have to be careful not to leave these bags lying around unsupervised!

Sunbathing

Gwen is allowed to stay out and walk around a little more each day. She’s healing very well and was happy as a clam napping in the sun today. Stitches will come out on Monday.

Sunshine on my shoulders

It’s rare to get such nice photos of Winnie. She’s definitely my shy girl, having been feral until she was 4 months old. She was so relaxed in her sunspot yesterday that she let me get a few pictures with the zoom.

Cats do the darndest things

Gabby finds bubble wrap as irresistible as the rest of us. She adores it so much that she got a box stuck on her head trying to reach it. Bad cat! I am quite sure that’s not good for you to nibble.

Girlie girl comes home

Just before Christmas Gwen had her yearly checkup. Her kidney disease has not progressed so we’re doing great with the food and the fluids every three weeks. The bad news was a lump discovered on her back leg next to her “knee”. We watched it closely and could tell that it was bigger within a few weeks so a needle aspiration was performed and the sample sent off to the lab. Doc at the lab felt it was likely cancer and vet felt Gwen should see a specialist because of the location- there isn’t much skin there so you only get one shot at removal.

On Monday I took Gwen to the Foster Small Animal Hospital at Tufts for a consult. She was admitted and put on iv fluids for the night to reduce her potassium levels (due to the kidney disease) and went into surgery on Tuesday. Because of the location they couldn’t take as wide a margin around the tumor as they would have liked. It was also embedded in the muscle so a good portion of that had to be removed as well. We were asked to pick her up Wednesday after 6 PM and when we brought her home she was still quite loopy. It was the quietest car trip with Gwen ever. She has pain medicine for a few more days and a checkup with our vet when she goes in for fluids on Wednesday with suture removal a few days later. It’ll be sometime next week before the lab confirms or rules out cancer. Hopefully she’ll be with us some years yet!

Nine Lives

It’s hard to believe it’s been a full year since Gwen was diagnosed with kidney disease. She’s been doing very well with the fluids every three weeks and the special food. Just before Christmas she had her yearly exam and some bloodwork done to check on the kidneys and the vet says they are holding steady with no further advance of disease. Sadly she also found a lump on Gwen’s back leg near her “knee” which was larger by the next visit 3 weeks later. At that point she did a needle biopsy and sent a sample off to the lab.  Yesterday at Gabby’s appointment I got the results for Gwen’s biopsy. She has an aggressive sarcoma and will need to see a surgeon for removal. We have an appointment at Tufts animal hospital on Monday for a consultation. Let’s hope Gwen still has a few lives left in her.

Having no definite aim or purpose

The heat was out for a little while yesterday so I put Gwen’s sweater on her for a bit. It turned out not to be necessary as I discovered the problem before it got very cool in the house and the repair man was here within an hour of Jason’s call. Thankfully the furnace only needed a bit of maintenance and the fellow was kind enough to explain how to do it.

A new little fountain pen arrived this week. An inexpensive little Kaweco Sport that I thought would make a good pen for purse or pocket as it’s leak proof. I’m not sure I can get around the medium nib though, it writes a very fat line.

The past 4 or 5 years I’ve been shopping the 50cent-dollar items at Micheal’s for silly gifts for stockings for Jason and the boys. Pink rubber balls were a popular item one year and this year I emerged with two items that were well received- some re-useable handwarmers and these funny chia men. Daniel apparently watered his right away and it’s already growing some “hair”.

Blustery indeed

12-11-brr12-11-GwenThursday was sunny and warm enough that I opened the windows for awhile so yesterday’s deep sudden chill was a bit shocking to the system. I put Gwen’s sweater on for her vet visit and it did seem to help.

Catnaps

tree12-7-Winnie12-7-lotion-barsWe managed to finish decorating the tree this week- lights compliments of Daniel who helped more than usual. I finally managed to get a snap of Winnie sleeping on the sheepskin. She’s been doing it for weeks but she’s so camera shy that she would bolt each time I’d come in the room with the camera. I also have a new mold for lotion bars and the hearts might go out the window pretty as they are. The square lotion bars are about the same volume but they are so much easier to use, I think that’s a keeper!
