That poor old hard drive was making the ticky ticky noise more and more often. A new one has arrived so this week we’ll be getting him loaded with software and up and running. He’s got lots of lovely room for photos!

Leftovers

While the table is full of puzzle we’ll be eating in front of the TV, something we try avoid most of the time. Last night I used leftover risotto last night and made risotto balls. Each one has a small piece of cured pork or fresh mozarella cheese inside. Yum!

I’ve been mulling over what to do with this special indigo dyed fabric for quite some time now. I bought it in Hawaii on the big island at the Dragon Mama quilt shop (it seems to be all about futons now). It was in their special kimono fabrics section and was quite pricey so I only bought two small pieces. Yesterday I sewed them up into a little barley hull pillow. I love the chrysanthemum but the backside is really pretty too.

While I was hanging laundry I spotted a fisher cat running up the neighbors pine tree to her den and this intriguing insect with gorgeous gilded wings.

Yesterday we walked to the post office and I spotted the lady slippers along the way. I never get tired of these and when I had a greenhouse full of orchids (300+) I had quite a few similar ones. Chris used to call these “saxaphone orchids” when he was little.

On my todo list for the day was repotting several of the violets that have outgrown their wee pots. I picked up some violet mix and several clay pots and set to work. A few of them had multiple plantlets that needed to be separated. If anyone local would like some violets please let me know, I have quite a few extra and will be crunch for space in the fall once the houseplants come back inside.

We also finished up our new hexagonal garden out front. Jason added several more bags of dirt/manure and then helped me plant tomatoes, hot peppers, bell peppers, zucchini, crooknecks, marigolds and zinnias. Grandmother always had zinnias in her garden and it was often my job to cut them for the dinner table. Those are flowers I try to have every year.

A little more organized

Over the weekend I organized my soaps and fiber samples. The soaps had been hogging counter space while they cured but now they are neatly stowed away in boxes the perfect size for 5 pounds of soap. The fiber samples were just all over the place on my desk and tacked to various and sundry cork boards around the house. A wee bit more tidy is a good thing at my house.

I was delighted Saturday when Jason brought out Grandma’s willow ware for dinner. I’d entirely forgotten about it tucked away in the basement. He washed up a few plates and things for dinner and today I’m washing the rest of it, getting it out of all that newspaper and planning to sew some felt covers for it when time permits. It was interesting to see the variety of marks on the backs of the dishes as I loaded it into the washer.

Yesterday I wrapped up the last of the painting and we put the boy’s room back together. There’s nothing more cheery than freshly painted walls.
