Saturday morning I turned on my little camera in order to take some photos of Riley and Gabby (big surprise there, eh?). His lens extended but then he made the white screen of death and dire beeping noises and turned himself back off. He’s been having trouble with the lens since before Christmas and I hinted then and again before my birthday that little guy would soon have to be replaced. As it turns out, it’s just as well we waited until it died as it was about $80 less for the camera I wanted than the price I saw at Christmas. New Baby Blue has twice the resolution, more optical zoom and a larger memory card. He came with a battery and charger and what’s even better, my old memory card fits in him so that I was able to retrieve the photos I took Friday night at cooking class!

Once I’m done with the negative/slide scanner I’m planning to send it on permanent loan to a friend who has a project for it. Before I shipped it off I told her I wanted to pull out my scrapbooking stuff and check for more negatives. I knew of at least a few I was missing for certain and I had a feeling there might be a cache of them that hadn’t been filed. Bingo! I unearthed an entire box of negatives that need to be scanned and filed in the archival sleeves. Once these are done I’ll be fairly confident that I’ve found them all other than the odd strip or two that was used for reprints. I know for certain that I am missing a strip from our wedding.

They said she was the most flea-ridden cat they’d ever rescued. She was found in a dumpster severely malnourished and a few days pregnant but too thin to sustain the litter. They warned us that she’d get much floofier once she was eating properly and they did not tell a lie. They also called it right when they said she has a jewel of a personality. Right away we shortened her name to Gabby, Gabrielle being just entirely too prissy for this vibrant and somewhat clumsy girl. See all that hair sticking out between her toes? She has much more now and it causes her to slip and slide on a regular basis when she tries to jump up.

I took an orchid book to the artist who used part of the black and white fronticepiece to sketch out a design for our door. When she had that all ready to go, I went to the studio and picked colors of glass appropriate for each orchid type and a few weeks later I had this gorgeous front door. Gwen came to us from a litter my sister’s cat Pepper had. I drove up to Arkansas with a riding mower Keith no longer wanted and came home with a little black cat in a box. She was summarily dunked in flea shampoo and began her life as an indoor cat. I wonder if she misses those chickens?

I’m working on 1993, clearly October which means Chris’s birthday. This was one of my less successful cake decorations, the chocolate icing was too thin and oozy but it did make for a cool looking skull. Kathryn and the neighbor Seth are selling cookies and lemonade, yum!
