Rising sun

We had a very pretty sunrise this morning!

Welcome back sun!

1110It’s been a little rainy here this week but yesterday the sun broke through the clouds and you could almost hear singing.

520dramacloudsdI was heading out to run errands earlier this week but when I saw the dramatic clouds I had to run back in for the camera and snap a few pictures for Sandy.

Four ducks on a pond,
A grass-bank behond,
A blue sky of spring,
White clouds on the wing…

2_3_sunrise
2_3_contentThere was a lovely sunrise this morning and I just did manage to get a photo of it before it was gone. Meanwhile Gabby snoozed contentedly in her warm sweater in my computer chair (her favorite place to sleep). She hasn’t been stuck to me like glue after her haircut so I really do think it’s kept her toasty warm and as you can see she’s not terribly bothered to have it on. Honestly, she really doesn’t mind it.

We spent the evening last night watching the game with friends. I had furious search for some appropriate easy knitting to take along for entertainment but all of my current projects require a bit more concentration than an excitable crowd will allow. I finally settled on the Herringbone Rib scarf pattern out of some alpaca/silk handspun (roving bought at Rhinebeck from the SheepShed). It’ll make good car knitting as well. I know I have a second hank of this roving lurking about somewhere. The first attempt is spun too loosely so perhaps on attempt #2 I’ll get a yarn firm enough to use for a mitten/hat combo to go with the scarf.

Thanks Sarah!

Three_revealYesterday my final Secret Pal package arrived. Thanks Sarah for being such a fabulous and thoughtful Secret Pal. The little fish on the card is actually a catnip fish and the cats have all had a go attacking it but they’re a little camera shy so I haven’t caught them "on film" yet (there must be a digital way to phrase that). The theme for this package is sock/feet and it’s chock full of fun things for foot care and sock knitting. Hubby has just worn a hole in his pair of Log Cabin socks so I’ve got plans for that reinforcing yarn already. And by the way, I got distracted by the nerd quiz you link to on your blog- 92 for me, guess I’m pretty nerdy ;)

We are having pretty much all the weather this week. There was a thick coating of ice on everything Monday morning, rain yesterday and snow is coming tonight. Yesterday I had clouds in my front yard and full sun in the back. I bet it’s driving the meteorologists crazy!

Oh what a beautiful mornin’

9_8_firehouseYesterday morning we took a walk bright and early before the heat really settled in. Just outside the door I found this lovely little moth visiting the mint and a few steps away I noticed the sweet autumn clematis  getting heavy with buds. A little further down the road I snapped the weather vein on the firehouse for the Saturday Sky group.

Later in the evening we were treated to dinner Daniel style. He got up in the morning, researched some recipes on Food Network, and choose to make Emeril’s fettucini alfredo with shrimp and sausage for dinner. For dessert he got his dad’s recipe for chocolate chip cookies.

Rub a dub dub

9_1_pink
9_1_purpleThe homemade soap is considerably softer than store-bought and can melt away very quickly if it sits in water. In an effort to stretch it out just a bit longer I decided to try a sort of felted cover. This is just some wool that came out a wee bit too felty for spinning (thanks Mme Purl!) but is perfect for soap covers. I grabbed a handful, wet the soap, wrapped it in bits of wool, wet the wool and then scrubbed away until I was sure it was felted enough to stay intact. I’m sure it’ll felt more tightly as it gets used.

I’m pleased to report that the third time’s the charm and I’ve finally successfully cast on my mitered scarf. Here it is about half finished already. Once it’s cast on it really flies along. Daniel happened along as I was photographing it and decided to take a more "artistic" photo of it for me.

9_1_another_sightingWe also spotted the Hood blimp in our Saturday sky as we were out running errands.
