Saxony in handspun

These handspun beauties arrived in my mailbox last week. Even though I set up the swap matches I’d forgotten that Rose had me. I had been admiring these from day one and I think they will be the warmest socks I own- perfect for my “snow boots” which are plain rain boots with a fleece liner at the bottom, not at all warm. The cable down the front is really lovely and the seed stitch on the back of the sock sets it off nicely. They were spun from corriedale/mohair and I suspect they will last me for ages so I’ll have many winters with warm feet to remind me of dear friends. Thanks Rose for such a wonderful gift that I’ll treasure for a long time to come.

The mailman left me a plethora of goodies out on the step today. On top was a package containing 8 wonderful ounces of Rambouilet Corriedale roving from Amanda for which I traded some soaps. I'm tickled pink about this barter. There'll be two more installments in March and April. Underneath that was a box from Bake it Pretty with candy molds for sheep, buttons and one large one that looks like a glass dish. Last but not least there was a copy of New Style of Heirloom Knitting, one of the Japanese pattern books I've been seeking for several months now.

My much anticipated lace swap package arrived yesterday just bursting with fabulous goodies. When Molly does a swap, she doesn’t mess around! There’s some wonderfully soft Malabrigo lace yarn, some gorgeous patterns (you should see these tomes, she did a *lot* of printing!) and an amazing assortment of really great stuff. I had a cup of the jasmine tea this morning and it tastes every bit as good as it smells. Yum! Can you believe these sweet little buttons? What’s really impressive is just how many of these things are things I’ve been meaning to try for quite some time. Thanks Molly! I love every bit of it!

Yesterday my final Secret Pal package arrived. Thanks Sarah for being such a fabulous and thoughtful Secret Pal. The little fish on the card is actually a catnip fish and the cats have all had a go attacking it but they’re a little camera shy so I haven’t caught them "on film" yet (there must be a digital way to phrase that). The theme for this package is sock/feet and it’s chock full of fun things for foot care and sock knitting. Hubby has just worn a hole in his pair of Log Cabin socks so I’ve got plans for that reinforcing yarn already. And by the way, I got distracted by the nerd quiz you link to on your blog- 92 for me, guess I’m pretty nerdy

We are having pretty much all the weather this week. There was a thick coating of ice on everything Monday morning, rain yesterday and snow is coming tonight. Yesterday I had clouds in my front yard and full sun in the back. I bet it’s driving the meteorologists crazy!

Starting off with a big bang!

Yesterday afternoon the mailman arrived with a heavy box with my name on it. I think it may have taken longer than expected to arrive and it did appear that it had a bit of a rough journey but the contents were completely unharmed. Opening the box and discovering the surprises inside was a journey and and of itself. My pal sent a fabulous "cooking" themed package. First I found delicious chocolate bars and gummy bears. (Daniel was delighted with these as well. He knows that a swap package usually contains some sort of sweet treat.)

Next I found these awesome kitty treats made from venison, mussels, and parlsey (for fresh breath). Gwen and Winnie adore them though Gabby (ironically the one with the worst breath) backs away. Not to worry, Gabby can have the catnip treats when Gwen and Winnie get their jerky.

Next I uncovered some spiced apple sock yarn from the Sweet Sheep. Apple picking season is fast upon us so if I knit up some socks quick I can enjoy apple coffee cake while wearing spiced apple socks. My pal also included an enormous stack of fun patterns all printed out and already slipped into page protectors. She’s clearly done some hefty research since I’ve not knit a single one of these nor had they been in my Ravelry queue. I can’t wait to try them.

Lastly I found a pair of knitted dish cloths. I’ve been admiring these all over blogland lately but although I’d borrowed the Mason Dixon book from the library I hadn’t yet bothered to knit anything from it. Thank you so much Secret Pal, I really enjoyed everything you sent and it was a lot of fun just to open the package.
